The Roman Baths are what give the city its name. These were famous in antiquity for the healing properties of the natural hot spring water. There were temples and all the other necessities of a Roman outpost, in order to facilitate people's visits, bathing and offerings to the gods at the baths. The museum is exceptionally good and makes everything clear and interesting. As we visited in the evening, the main bath was torchlit, which added to the ambience.
