The Tree Cathedral was created by Edmond K Blyth as an act of 'Faith, Hope and Reconciliation'. Blyth lost comrades in World War One and was inspired to create a tree cathedral in their memory. Work began in 1932 and continued for many years, though it became overgrown during World War Two. There are various 'chapels' for each of the four seasons and more. Each area has specific trees to represent either the season or a relevant part of the world.
There is something selfless about a person who created something that would not be fully developed in his own lifetime. The whole place has a sense of serenity and peace.
